Name: Sam and Corey
Ceremony : Their home
Wedding Photography: Richard Grenfell Photography
Reception: Maroochydore Soccer Club
I have known Samantha since she went to Primary school with my son. So when she contacted me at the recommendation of her mum to photograph their wedding I was genuinely honored and touched. Her mum who I also have known for years is a multimedia/photography professional for the QLD government. So the fact she recommended me from a million other professionals she knows really humbled me. Truth be known, made me more nervous than I usually am.
They decided to have the wedding ceremony at their home here on the Sunshine Coast. Their yard is beautiful because Corey maintains it obsessively. I since found out that he is a self proclaimed “Lawn Nerd” and nothing gives him more pleasure than having close to perfect grass. I just wish he would spend some time at my place. The reception was to be at the Maroochydore Soccer Club where Corey plays and is on the committee.
With the two weeks leading up to the wedding there was one snag. We had rain at biblical levels that only Queensland can seem to produce. The marquee for the Soccer Ground was cancelled due to the fact it would have sunk and trashed the grounds and the recpetion was moved into the Club House. Now… the club house is typical of regional club houses… basic and painted in club colours . In this case is it is painted blue. Very blue. So Sam, Corey and all their friends went to work and redecorated the room and the transformation was nothing short of amazing considering they were starting from nothing and was done on the fly.
Luck was with them, miraculously the rain cleared the day before the wedding and the Ceremony proceeded outdoors. I guess the wedding gods were smiling on them because the next day we went back to flood level rain again. It was a genuinely beautiful ceremony and had a great vibe. After that we all jumped in a mini bus and went and did some photos before the reception. Typical of Sam and Corey they mainly wanted photos of them with their bridal party having a good time. We decided to go to Wirreanda Park and the newer park next to the Buderim Amateur Theatre hall. There were about four other bridal parties there getting photos. I can say with confidence their wedding party was the rowdiest, carrying the most champagne and had the most fun.
From there we went to the reception. You know when you go to a party and you know straight away that is going to be a good one because of the feel when you walk in? Well this was just like that. I photographed the first dance in record time as it seemed like they were only on there for a few seconds before the rest of the room joined in. As a sidenote, I never knew that the Shania Twain song “Man I Feel Like a Woman” was such a sure fire party pleaser.
I love all the weddings I am involved in. This one was special because of the long association with Sam and her Mum going back to when Sam played volleyball for the school with our son. Funny how things work out, my son Jordan now coach’s the local ladies team/s that Sam still plays in. I look at the photos I shot for this wedding with a real fondness. I am probably biased but I think I can really feel the happiness and love in the images. I thank them again for letting me be part of their day.
